Sonia Herrero believes sound design builds increased and nuanced awareness. She is a sound designer, composer, and audio engineer. Starting in theatre sound design she applied audio engineering work to TV news outlets, radio, podcast and film formats. Her composition and sound design works have been featured in The New York Times, Vox Media, and DC Commission documentary films. Her live performances as a violinist have been featured at The REACH at the Kennedy Center, Hillyer Arts Space, Corcoran School of the Arts & Design, Songbyrd, Dew Drop Inn and more. After experiencing a lack of diversity in her field, Herrero began teaching public sound design workshops to increase access to tools in sound design. She has taught at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, WeWork, 202 Creates, Eaton Hotel, and Rhizome DC.
